Take a tour of Crook County history with
A.R. Bowman Memorial Museum
Bowman Museum's indoor exhibit gallery features a wide range
of
displays detailing Crook County history including the City of
Prineville
Railroad, the ups and downs of the timber industry as well as
an
impressive military exhibit. Along with these major exhibits
many smaller
exhibits tantalize visitors with historically accurate
depictions of pioneer
life and local history.
The building which holds the historical artifacts of Crook
County opened
as the A. R. Bowman Museum in 1971. Built in 1910 as the Crook
County
Bank, the building was constructed using stone blocks from a
local quarry
located just west of the Ochoco Viewpoint. The same stone was
used to
build the historic Crook County Courthouse only one year
earlier.
